The beauty industry has grown at a rapid speed since the 1990s. There are increasingly more people enrolling in beauty school and more people than ever willing to pay large amounts of money for beauty products and treatments. In addition, there are continually expanding lists of treatments, trends and products that aid in creating the desired beauty looks.

The look of beauty has changed quite a bit over the past several decades. Women wanted to look glamorous in the 1940s and 1950s but by the 1970s the feminist movement had many women turning away from makeup and moving toward a more natural look. The 1980s was the decade of big hair and noticeable makeup that went along with the attitude of excess that was abundant in that decade. The 1990s ushered in constantly changing trends that were dizzying to try to keep up with and the same can be said for the 2000s. Some of which were grunge, glitter, chunky highlights, self-tanner, dark lip liner, and men rocking frosted tips.

Recently, anti-aging has become a big trend. Women are aging much differently now than they did four or five decades ago. Treatments aimed at keeping a younger looking face and body have become more specialized and improved. From plastic surgery, laser skin resurfacing, stem cell therapy, and chemical peels performed my doctors to facials, anti-aging creams, and supplements that can be bought over the counter or at a local beauty esthetician. Women are increasingly trying to preserve their youth at any cost. Youth and beauty go and in had while the trends and years flash by us.

Here are a few trends to know for the upcoming fall season. 1990s beauty is making a comeback this fall in the form of brown toned lip colors and nude pink blushes. Another resurgence is the cat eye. The cat eye became popular in the 1950s in the Hollywood glam era and kept its popularity through the 60s. Now there are multiple ways it can be worn ranging from subtle, graphic, bat wing and double wing. Make friends with your flat irons again because smooth, straight, frizz-free hair is back with a vengeance. Styles a range of ways from low or side ponytails, side parts or middle parts sleek is what is in for the fall. Large noticeable hair accessories are a big trend for fall fashion. Fingers are now adorned with sheer polish and simple designs. The trend is called negative space nail art and is very popular—think minimalism.
